Paper Description

Edit Paper Description Content

This is a language acquisition paper designed for absolute beginners in Spanish. The emphasis in the paper is on the development of competence in communication in the four skills - reading, writing, speaking and listening.

The course is targeted at those students who are planning to take a foreign language as part of their studies, and also for those that wish to take Spanish as a degree.

SPNSH131 also offers the students the opportunity to learn throughout the text book and cultural readings about the influence of indigenous loan words on both vocabulary and the pronunciation of colonial Spanish. Students also improve their thinking skills by comparing the words and cultural contexts which they are learning, with those of their first language.
